Garbage and Recycling
The City of Solon contracts with Johnson County Refuse for garbage and
recycling pick up and they transitioned to automated trucks effective July 1,
2018.
Each household is assigned a garbage cart and recycling cart (the
containers are called carts).
Johnson County owns the carts. If carts become damage, Johnson County
will repair.
Residents have a choice of a 35 gallon cart for garbage that holds approx.
three bags (13 gallon size) that will be picked up every other week for $12.50
per month or, a 65 gallon cart for garbage that holds approx. six bags (13 gallon
size) for $18.50 per month that will be picked up weekly.
The monthly fee is added to your water bill.
New Residents: A $30 fee is charged to change garbage cart sizes after 30 days of moving in.
For overflow garbage, a sticker may be purchased for $3.00. Place the bag on top of the cart. Stickers available at Sam's Main Street Market and City Hall.
Yard Waste Stickers cost $1.25 and are available at City Hall. Contact Johnson County Refuse to dispose of large items 319-665-4498.
A City Wide Clean Up day is held annually at the SRNA. August 12, 2023 7a.m. - 9 a.m.
